What is Red Light/Near Infrared Light Therapy?

Red light therapy is an innovative, scientifically developed, and non-invasive treatment method that uses targeted wavelengths of visible red light (630, 660, 670 nm) as well as invisible near-infrared (NIR) light (810, 830, 850 nm).

While red light penetrates the upper layers of the skin, NIR light reaches deeper structures such as muscles, tendons, and even bones.

This therapy has been successfully used for decades in human medicine and has also proven effective in veterinary medicine as a method to support healing processes.

How does red light and near-infrared light therapy work?

Your pet’s health begins at the cellular level. Inside the cells are mitochondria — tiny powerhouses that produce adenosine triphosphate (ATP), the essential energy source for nearly all bodily functions. As your pet ages or suffers injuries, ATP production decreases, which slows down the healing process.

Light therapy stimulates the mitochondria, increases ATP production, and supports the body’s natural regeneration. It promotes vasodilation (the widening of blood vessels) in both the blood and lymphatic systems by increasing the production of nitric oxide. Additionally, it stimulates the formation of new blood vessels and helps locally regulate oxidative stress.

The result: faster healing, reduced inflammation, improved circulation, and greater vitality for your pet.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is red light therapy safe for pets?

Yes, and they love it! The therapy is gentle, pleasant, and generally completely safe. Similar to humans, it boosts cellular energy, supports the regeneration of tendons, muscles, and bones, and relieves pain. Additionally, it can have preventive effects and promote your pet’s overall well-being.

However, if your pet is light-sensitive or taking medications that increase skin sensitivity, you should consult your veterinarian beforehand. The LEDs stay below 40 °C; pets usually feel only gentle warmth.

How often can I use it?

Follow the manufacturer’s quick‑start guide (generally twice daily for 15 minutes) and, if in doubt, consult your veterinarian for a schedule tailored to your pet.
